Personal Strategic Plan

The date is March 6, 2015, just three short years from now. Barring any unforeseen circumstances you will wake up as always and start your day. Do you have any idea where in life you will be or what you will be doing? Many people do not, and suddenly one day they wake up and realize that 5, 10, 15, or more years have passed.

Most successful businesses go through a strategic planning process. In very small businesses this may be somewhat informal, but most businesses need a plan. They often start with a process known as a SWOT analysis, analyzing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.

Do your personal SWOT.

Tactical vs. Strategic

How do you assess training needs? During these difficult economic times organizations often base training needs on a tactical approach. Tactical implying that they are targeted for current or immediate needs. Tactical needs are important but organizations should also consider their strategic needs. Strategic needs will help the organization or the individual employee in the future. I am a firm believer that organizations should assess their needs by searching for root causes and not focus solely on the presenting problems. How does your organization approach its training and development needs?
