Positive Impact

“You have a bad attitude!”

In our lives we all have some responsibility for our attitude. Nearly every day someone, a client, a workshop participant, or even someone in a retail establishment will mention to me the negativity that they feel from other people. We all make decisions everyday and one of the most important decisions we can make is our outlook on what today will bring. Our attitude and how we approach other people often has a lot to do with how our day will turn out.

“I was fine until I saw Adam!”

We often place blame on others around us; and frankly, yes, those people could have something to do with our negativity. What if we role reverse the scenario? Who is to blame?

Every day we have an opportunity, we have an opportunity to have a positive impact on people. Make an impact, make a ripple, and spread out positive energy to those around you!

Will you have a positive impact today?

    Be BOLD!

    Greetings!

Open every conversation with a positive salutation! EXPECT the best from those you encounter. Say THANK YOU to strangers.

Last week, on a cold windy day (the day after the tornadoes hit Harrisburg, IN) I was standing at a taxi stand in Indianapolis – waiting and waiting and waiting for a taxi. Two young men approached. They were not my ethnicity and in "normal" circumstances I would have turned away.

One pitched some trash into a nearby trash can as he approached it. With the help of the wind, it went sailing past the can and sat on the sidewalk. He shrugged and smiled at me - a nonverbal "ooops". He diverted his route to retrieve the errant missile and redirect it to the intended receptacle.

I BOLDLY and LOUDLY said "Thank You" – to a STRANGER - on an INNER CITY STREET!

He turned, smiled and replied, "If we all do our part, we will all be better off." He turned back to his course and out of my life, until today. Every time I recall this great positive interaction and share it I will smile.

I hope that young man reflects on the bearded old white guy who gave him an "attaboy" for doing what he thought was a completely natural thing to do.

There, I too have done my part. Have a great day!
